From the time I was saved by God’s grace at 17, missions work has been on my heart. I always assumed that it would be somewhere in Latin America because of my interest in Spanish, but the Lord always knows what is best. The Lord led me into the field of education as a career path. After studying to teach Spanish and ESL, I spent a year teaching in the city of Detroit while being involved in different gospel outreaches associated with my assembly.
In 2017, the Lord very clearly showed me through His word, teaching at my assembly and various circumstances that He wanted me to move to Zambia and teach at Sakeji Mission School. Two verses that specifically spoke to me were Matthew 19:29 (“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life.”) and Mark 11:3 (“…the Lord has need of it…”). Confident that the Lord was guiding me, I relocated to a country that I had never previously visited. He has been absolutely faithful ever since.
Our goal at Sakeji is to fulfill the great commission and “make disciples of every nation.” While our students are primarily Zambian, other countries like Angola, Namibia and DRC are also represented. Additionally, we seek to serve local missionaries by providing a quality education for their children. I currently teach grade 6 and 7. Because it is a boarding school, my responsibilities spill outside of the classroom into supervising the kids for the numerous activities we have to keep them occupied after classes. Please pray for the salvation and spiritual maturity of each child, that they would leave Sakeji firmly grounded in the truth and ready to share what they have learned here with others.
In addition to the work at the school, there are a number of opportunities for sharing God’s word in the community. Each Monday I head into a nearby village to teach the local children from the Bible. Please pray that God will bless this effort and that His word would richly bear fruit in the salvation of their souls and lives. There are also opportunities for one-on-one evangelism and discipleship as I get to know many of the youth in the area. Please pray that the Lord would use these interactions to point people to Himself as the only Savior and God.
