Ricky was commended from the Mitchell Good News Centre in Mitchell, Manitoba, Canada in June 2012. He spent the next couple years in Pharr, Texas and different places in Mexico with established missionaries to learn about the work. When he married Erika (Thiessen), they were commended as a couple from Mitchell in July of 2015. Most of their time is spent in:

Study and preparation for meetings.
Sharing the Gospel through regular distribution of physical and online literature, gospel meetings, and special outreaches.
Teaching new believers through home Bible studies, ministry meetings and quality time together outside of the meeting schedule.
Volunteering at a camp for teens.

Several ladies in the fellowship have husbands who are unbelievers.
The brothers in Christ who work in Canada have returned and we are thankful to have them with us.
Thank the Lord for healing the baby boy born to one of the sisters!

Abigail’s husband needs to be saved.
We see in some believers a lack of interest in the local church.
Other believers show enthusiasm and we are so thankful for their desire to actively participate and learn!

Recovering from COVID-19 and passports

Reasons to pray:

We are working on getting Elias´ Mexican passport, and we´d also like to get his Canadian one, but it looks like it’ll be a bit more complicated due to the coronavirus.
Guanajuato is in stage two out of four stages of contagion. We could begin to gather again, and we need wisdom.

Reasons to give thanks to God:

The believers who were sick have recovered to the point that they no longer need oxygen.
We have enjoyed online meetings very much.

Affected by COVID-19

Reasons to pray:

Victor, Luis´brother, tested positive for COVID-19. We are thankful it doesn’t seem to be a bad case, but his wife’s health is delicate.
Abigail´s uncle, who raised her, passed away, and she needs the Lord´s comfort.
This state is in level two out of four levels of contagion, we need to be careful and we need the Lord’s protection.

Reasons to give thanks to God:

We were able to borrow oxygen tanks in time for Luis to use when he was very ill.
We were able to obtain oxygen tanks under our name later so we no longer need to borrow them.
Luis and Leticia, and Marina and Lorenzo, who had the worst cases of the virus are improving. Cristi and Fernando, who had the lighter cases of the virus, are feeling quite well.

Cautiously Restarting Activities

Reasons to pray:

This state is in level three out of four levels of contagion, may the Lord guard our health.
We now are looking at the possibility of meeting in the open air by the hall, keeping a safe distance and using masks, of course.
While this is a time in which we all lack fellowship and connection, the Lord can use this to help us to appreciate our fellow-believers and invest more purposefully in our relationships with each other.

Reasons to give thanks to God:

We received the calendars for 2021.
The brothers who work in Canada arrived safely, quarantined, and are well.
No believers from Irapuato or la Purísima have gotten sick.

Losing Loved Ones

Reasons to pray:

The families of the people who have lost loved ones recently, due to the virus or other illnesses need comfort from God.
The government in Mexico needs to deal not only with ever-climbing positive covid-19 cases, but also increasing drug-related violence, especially in Guanajuato.
We hope the believers will continue to have fellowship, even virtually, and grow though we cannot gather as normal.

Reasons to give thanks to God:

No believers from Irapuato or la Purísima have gotten sick.
Technology that allows us to keep in touch with most of the believers, even though most don't have wifi.
People who are willing to spend the time to prepare a message, record, edit and post messages for the benefit of other believers.

Fellowship in isolation (still)

Reasons to pray:

May the believers continue to have fellowship, even virtually, and grow though we cannot gather as normal.
The comfort and health of the elderly sister who had terrible pain in her hip and leg and has been diagnosed with cancer.
The believers mental health, as isolation is a trigger for problems such as anxiety.

Reasons to give thanks to God:

No one we know has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Technology that allows us to keep in touch with most of the believers, even though most don't have wifi.
People who are willing to spend the time to prepare a message, record, edit and post messages for the benefit of other believers.

Fellowship in spite of Isolation

Reasons to pray:

May the believers continue to have fellowship, even virtually, and grow though we cannot gather as normal.
An elderly sister who has had terrible pain in her hip and leg since she fell in October and the doctors don’t seem to be able to help.
Several believers have been struggling with health issues like anxiety and depression.

Reasons to give thanks to God:

Simon Dyck got home safely.
We are having a baby!
People who are willing to spend the time to prepare a message, record, edit and post messages for the benefit of other believers.

Health problems and spiritual growth

Reasons to pray:

Luis and Ricky not only carry the burden of responsibility in the assembly, but also of almost daily physical pain.
It would be good for believers to be able to attend events such as Bible conferences and Seed Sowers.
Several believers have been struggling with health issues like anxiety and depression.

Reasons to give thanks to God:

Ricky's pain has diminished after a couple of difficult months.
The initiative we have seen in some believers to learn more and share with others.
Our friendships with our neighbours are growing!

Wisdom in continued opportunities and thanks

Erika´s writing has always been a part of the work, but after attending some workshops, more writing opportunities opened up and we need wisdom as we decide where to invest time.
Our relationships with our neighbours continue to be strengthened, our hope is that they´ll see Christ in us.
We are thankful that our brother´s health is improving, and he has been able to attend meetings recently again.

Recently we have had more opportunities to interact with our neighbours. We want to be approachable, in the hopes of someday approaching them with the Gospel.
A brother responsible in the new assembly was very sick with chest pains among other problems, recently.

- Our sister Paty´s recovery from surgery. Her cancerous tumor was successfully removed from her throat and she is now in treatments.

- Her son Ramón´s salvation. He is 18.

- Growth of the new assembly, especially through the series of ministry meetings planned for the end of April.

New Assembly

In January of 2019, a new assembly was established in La Purísima, Guanajuato. May the Lord use us to give helpful teaching about His assembly to the believers there.

Growth on behalf of those who are saved in relation to conviction about gathering to the Lords name (with a future assembly in mind).
Salvation. Simply because people need to be saved.
For Gods glory, their fulfillment and a future testimony the Lords name.
Faithfulness. It is easy to get side tracked and distracted but when all is said and done, we want to be found faithful.
